Προφήτης Ηλίας Σκάλας Ωρωπού: Ένας λόφος, πολλές ιστορίες

 

Γιορτάζει και φέτος o Προφήτης Ηλίας στη Σκάλα Ωρωπού θυμίζοντάς μας ταυτόχρονα τη σημαντική ιστορία του λόφου στον οποίο είναι χτισμένος, το Λομπέρδι.

Μετά τον Α’ Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο, όλο και περισσότερες βιομηχανικές επιχειρήσεις επιδίδονται σε μικρής κλίμακας μεταλλευτικές δραστηριότητες. Στόχος τους  είναι η εκμετάλλευση του εγχώριου λιγνίτη[1] για τον εφοδιασμό τους σε καύσιμη ύλη.  Αν και ήταν γνωστή από το 1830 η ύπαρξη του λιγνίτη στην περιοχή ανάμεσα στο Μαρκόπουλο και στο Μήλεσι (Μαυροσουβάλα, Μπάφι), η εξόρυξή του άρχισε το 1870.

The Geriatrics and Welfare Support Center “Saint Porphyrios” in Dilesi

The Geriatrics & Welfare Support Center “SAINT PORPHYRIOS” was founded on April 17, 2013 and inaugurated on May 23, 2019 by His All-Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and His Beatitude the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronimos II. The Center assists the work of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens in the field of social welfare for the elderly. 

It has state-of-the-art facilities and can serve up to 65 elderly people, offering them appropriate medical and nursing care. It cooperates with the University of Athens on scientific, medical, and research matters in the fields of geriatrics, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and related conditions. 

During his speech at the inauguration of the Center, His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronimos stated, among other things:

“…In this space you will see modern athletic facilities, exercise and entertainment areas, a children’s playground and recreation areas, an open-air theater and a modern photovoltaic park for the energy support of the structure, and of course our newly built Holy Church — a place of worship, prayer, and reflection.

We envision this Center together with our collaborators to become the home of the grandfather and grandmother of our childhood memories. Permanently open to relatives, friends, acquaintances, and strangers. A home that will transform the difficulty of old age into a blessing of youth.

A social welfare structure that will not only treat the real needs of many of our fellow human beings, through unique and modern medical, hospital, and hotel equipment, but will also create conditions for the real development of this blessed region…”

The Amalieio Orphanage and the Old Prisons of Oropos: History and Transformations

The erection of the complex of buildings known as the Old Prisons of Oropos is connected with the Amalieio Orphanage, which was founded on 8 June 1855 as a Philanthropic Society by Royal Decree signed by Otto and Alexandros Mavrokordatos, as the Minister of the Interior.

Όπως έχουμε ήδη αναφέρει, με τη δημιουργία του ελληνικού κράτους δημιουργείται ο Δήμος Περαίας με έδρα τον σημερινό Κάλαμο, ενώ το 1843 η έδρα του μεταφέρεται στον Ωρωπό και το 1871 μετονομάζεται σε Δήμο Ωρωπίων. Ωστόσο,  το 1912 καταργείται και δημιουργούνται οι χωριστές κοινότητες για κάθε χωριό.

Σε συνέχεια του προηγούμενου άρθρου μας, συνεχίζουμε σήμερα με την περίοδο από το 1830 έως το 1914 η οποία - εξαιτίας ευεργετικών σουλτανικών φιρμανιών προς τους Χριστιανούς, αλλά και λόγω της παρακμής του οθωμανικού κράτους - ήταν μια περίοδος αναλαμπής και ανάπτυξης για τα Μαρμαρονήσια. Ο Προικοννησιακός Ελληνισμός ανθεί, χτίζει σχολεία και μέγαρα, πλουτίζει εκκλησίες και μοναστήρια, διαπρέπει στη ναυτιλία και το εμπόριο και αναπτύσσεται όσο ποτέ άλλοτε.
